LGJI operates from its headquarters in Saint Paul, Minnesota, with a regional office in Liberia. As an organization committed to transparency, accountability, and ethical standards, LGJI collaborates with international partners and the Government of Liberia to support peace consolidation, human rights, and socio-economic development.
The LGJI Board of Directors will be composed of a diverse group of experts who will provide strategic direction and governance. We are seeking candidates with the following expertise:
- International Law: Individuals with a background in international legal frameworks, transitional justice, and human rights.
- Governance: Experts in public administration, policy-making, and institutional governance.
- Journalism: Professionals with experience in media, communications, and public relations.
- Human Rights: Advocates and practitioners in the field of human rights and social justice.
- Medical Sciences and Technology: Innovators and leaders in medical sciences, technology, and development who can contribute to health and technological advancements in Liberia.
Eligibility and Requirements
- Qualified candidates must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the fields mentioned above.
- A commitment to LGJI’s mission and values, with a passion for promoting good governance, justice, and human rights in Liberia.
- Experience serving on nonprofit boards or in leadership roles, with a strong understanding of governance and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Ability to contribute to strategic decision-making, provide oversight, and offer guidance to the organization’s Executive Director and team.
- Willingness to actively participate in board meetings and committees, whether remotely or in person.

The Liberia Governance and Justice Initiative (LGJI), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting good governance, justice, and the rule of law in Liberia, is seeking an exceptional leader to serve as our founding Liberia Country Director. This critical role will spearhead the initial launch, development, and establishment of a strong presence for LGJI in Liberia, working closely with the Government of Liberia, civil society, universities, and local thought leaders.

The Liberia Country Director will play a foundational role in building and leading LGJI’s operations in Liberia. The ideal candidate will have:
- Expertise in International Law, Governance, Journalism, Human Rights, Medical Sciences, or Technology: A strong background in one or more of these fields, with a focus on their application within the Liberian context.
- Advanced Education: A master’s degree or equivalent qualifications in a relevant field, such as law, public administration, development studies, or related disciplines.
- Extensive Experience in Liberia: Proven experience working in Liberia, with a deep understanding of the local governance structures, civil society, and socio-political dynamics.
- Leadership and Management: Experience in managing technical teams, overseeing significant resources, and ensuring the effective application of donor, government, and philanthropic funding.
- Community Engagement: An ability to work effectively with Liberians of all walks of life, including youth, women, children, advocates, activists, faith-based leaders, and the private sector.
- Strategic Partnership Development: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with the Government of Liberia, local and international stakeholders, and funding partners.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership and Oversight: Lead the launch, development, and strong presence creation of LGJI in Liberia, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
- Team Building: Work closely with the overseas team to identify new staff, recruit, train, and support them, building a capable and motivated team on the ground in Liberia.
- Resource Management: Manage significant resources, including donor, government, and philanthropic funding, ensuring compliance with all financial and legal requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with the Government of Liberia, civil society organizations, universities, and other key stakeholders.
- Strategic Planning and Implementation: Develop and execute strategies that advance LGJI’s mission in Liberia, including advocacy, public engagement, and capacity-building initiatives.

The Liberia Governance and Justice Initiative (LGJI) is a newly established but rapidly growing nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting good governance, justice, and human rights in Liberia. We collaborate with international stakeholders to highlight Liberia’s progress in governance, peace consolidation, and justice while working with civil society and public institutions to foster accountability and transparency. Communications Director

- Manage media relations and write press releases, reports, and other communications materials.
- Oversee the production of public materials such as newsletters and reports.

Finance Director/Accountant
Role Overview: The Finance Director will oversee LGJI’s financial planning, accounting processes, and ensure fiscal responsibility across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage budgets, financial reporting and ensure compliance with donor requirements.
- Oversee day-to-day accounting, including payroll, vendor payments, and expense management.
- Develop financial forecasts, cash flow projections, and financial risk management strategies.
